If you’re among the many free subscribers to this Substack page, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Each month you will receive two posts, reflections on the iconographic motifs I produce, and practical and theoretical discussions about iconography and the spirituality that inspires it. There will be, as well, occasional free postings for those who continue as free subscribers. For those who subscribe, there is a 10% discount when purchasing an icon (and “founding members” get a 20% discount on their first purchase of an icon).

I have two reasons for using the “paid subscriber” option on Substack. The first is that this is a source of income for me. Artists don’t make much in the way of income, and it’s generally “either feast or famine” — unlike salaried work, my income varies between those times when sales are good and when they’re nonexistent. So, an additional source of income like Substack helps to keep the lights on and potatoes in the pot. The second reason for the paid option is that it limits comments to those who are truly interested in iconography and spiritual things. (Here in Norway, we know something about trolls, and we prefer to keep them at a distance.)

REFLECTIONS ON CHRISTIAN ICONOGRAPHY is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

So, I appreciate any and all friendly interest in my work, but I especially appreciate those who subscribe at the very low cost of $5.00 per month (less than 50 kroner in Norwegian currency), or $50 per year. In return, I’ll try to make this Substack page worth your while.

God Jul (Merry Christmas) from me to you.
