A few days ago I went on a pilgrimage to the township of Røldal to see the miraculous crucifix there and learn more about this site of pilgrimage in earlier times. I was the second youngest on the bus, which was filled with pensioners. I have always liked playing with those who are older than myself, so these were good travel companions for me to have. In the Middle Ages, travel was more demanding, of course; one traveled by foot or on horseback. On this present-day motorized excursion, we were treated to a nice introduction to the pilgrimage tradition as we entered the church. In the Middle Ages and for a long time afterwards, the faithful journeyed to Røldal to be healed both physically and mentally.
