The Presentation of Christ in the Temple
On the threshold between Christmas and Easter
In Eastern and Western rites, the Presentation of Christ in the Temple is celebrated on the second of February. As the final celebration of the Christmas-Epiphany season, it stands on the threshold of the coming of Lent and Pascha. In Simeon’s prophecy, we have the foreshadowing of the cross and the resurrection, which will be fulfilled by the infant he bears in his arms.
