May 1st, which was yesterday as I write this, is the workers' day - and it is also the day when Catholics celebrate Saint Joseph the Worker. Although March 19th is the longstanding feast day of St. Joseph, this second day commemorating Jesus’ foster father celebrates the fact that he was a laborer. It was was formally incorporated into the Roman liturgical calendar with the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s. With St. Joseph in mind, then, I present three of the icons I have made over the years that depict him.
