Vikøy Church in Hardanger: Glimpses From a Local History

Vikøy Church is situated by the Hardangerfjord, a few kilometers from where I live. “Vik” means “bay” and “øy(r)” means “delta.” So “Vikøy” indicates a bay where the river runs into the fjord. My parents were married in this church, and I was baptized and confirmed in the same church. My parents are now resting near the entrance, in one of the most beautiful graveyards in Norway. Also, my grandparents and great grandparents are waiting for the resurrection here.
